After graduation I went to pre-earthquake Royal Newcastle Hospital, situated on the beachfront. It was a very good learning experience together with an active social life with a pub on campus. I was there for three years and had decided to do O&G with the promise of a registrar job the following year. I passed my first part and headed off to do the European trip, never to return to Australia.
Got a job, met a woman, bought a car, had a baby! Passed my MRCOG
examination 1986 just before our first child was born.
Obtained my MD from Sydney Uni: 'Protein synthesis and secretion
by human endometrium and decidua'. 1987-1992 worked as an SR in Cambridge (the
Rosie Maternity Hospital) and Norwich.
In 1993 I was appointed as a consultant in Nottingham and worked
happily there for more than twenty years; special interests included
endocrinolgy and fertility, diabetes, menopause studies and medical education.
I retired at 60 and moved to West Sussex for new challenges.
My wife died in 2022 and I was glad we had some quality time
together before lock-down and illness beset us.
