I do like to hear from time to time what’s going on with our colleagues albeit Tim Ingall & Rob Sebesfi are the only two I have any regular contact with, apart from Joe McMahon who I run into occasionally at the coffee shop.
Personally the 45yrs doesn’t appeal, but a big 50th may well have some legs.
I’ve now been retired from GP since July 2021 and finished all work retiring from the Healius Board in Oct 2022. I am now not even registered as I was always determined, and have succeeded pretty much, not too have too much of my ego tied up in what I am. Many people were kind enough to say I’d be missed, but they get over it. I do miss some of the intellectual challenge of Medicine, but only some of the patients, only some of my colleagues and NONE of the bureaucratic bulldust that has increasingly infested our working lives. To those who suggested I’d be bored and asked what would I do, I replied “More time with my (big extended) family, more time riding my BMW R1200R, more time at the bridge club, more time on the golf course, more time walking the dog. Then if I even look like being bored, reading, music, a memoir, mainly for my own amusement and for family historians, and honing my exceedingly fledgling guitar skills will snap me out of it. Life is good albeit as we speak I’m convalescing from my 2nd dose of Covid (fully vacc’ed of course). Unpleasant but nowhere near hospital territory thank goodness!
I was saddened by the news about Mark. Our professional lives mean we don’t have illusions about living forever, but it’s just too early!
I hope your ’23 is onwards and upwards.
