Andy,
As always, it’s
good to hear from you. You can be relied on to bring fascinating news of our
classmates.
My news is as
follows.
As you know because you were there on the day it happened, albeit half anaesthetised, I retired in late January. My retirement lasted about 3 months.
In late February, as a retirement present to myself, I went on a holiday to the Barrier Reef organised by a company (Ocean swim safaris) that specialises in taking swimmers to nice places around the world for organised swims. At the end of that week, I was headhunted to join the company. My new job is to sheepdog swimmers in the ocean so that not too many get lost or drown. Currently I’m just the work experience student but hopefully will soon graduate to be the intern!
My other news is that in an attempt to finally get educated, I have re enrolled in our alma mater as an undergrad to do a BA. I actually don’t start my course until August and have no idea how long I will last. I am doing one subject a semester so if I go the distance, my degree will take 12 years! I plan to turn up to live lectures, sit in the front row and take lots of notes in a real notebook. No IT gimmicks for me. My children (one of whom is still at Sydney Uni) are mortified and say that I’ll drive the rest of the class crazy but I reckon that’s their problem. My uni commitment comprises a one hour lecture and a two hour tutorial a week so I have plenty of time to go to political rallies or whatever else Arts students are supposed to do.
I think that brings us up to date
Regards and stay well
Howard Roby
